Our current project is the continuation of previous project implemented by ABP and is planned to further strengthen the sustainability of Tobacco Control at sub-national level. In Punjab, ABP team had consultation meetings with the Provincial Tobacco Control Cell and NCD Program Punjab. In one of the meetings the Federal Tobacco Control Cell representation was also there. As an outcome of these consultations a draft project for PC-I has been prepared and shared with the Provincial Tobacco Control Cell.
ABP has engaged the Provincial stakeholders on the development of a comprehensive framework to guide the integration of Tobacco Control with the Health Sector Programs. Earlier, with the efforts of ABP, first ever integration of Tobacco Control with TB Control Program has formally been made and data of Tobacco Use is being collected, compiled and shared with ABP on regular basis by the TB Control Program Punjab. The newly developed Framework proposes other areas of integration. Secondly, on the request of NCD Program, another framework on Tobacco Cessation Services in Punjab has also been developed through a consultation process.
ABP team has earlier facilitated the issuance of first ever Tobacco Vendor Licenses in the districts of Multan, Sargodha, Khanewal and Lodhran. Now, in the current phase ABP started coordination with the District Health and Excise, Taxation & Narcotics Control Departments in the identified districts of Vehari, Toba Tek Singh, DG Khan and Muzaffargarh. Through coordinated efforts of these departments and facilitation from ABP, the Tobacco Vendor Licenses have been issued for the first time in these Districts.
Following mechanism was adopted to ensure the implementation of TVA in the districts;
ABP team engaged the Provincial and Federal Tobacco Control Cells in the consultation process to develop consensus on the actions to mitigate existing and emerging tobacco control challenges. Further ABP, from the platform of ATNiC, also developed policy papers on NTNPs and Smokeless Tobacco Products.
